Three years ago today, RW opened the shop door to our very first cohort of trainees. Our small team of four hustled to train 10 folks from across Chicago on everything from using power tools to building a shed (a project that each cohort still does today).
CHICAGO - Governor JB Pritzker today joined the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and community leaders to announce significant investments to expand workforce training and support Illinois' continued economic recovery from the pandemic. The new initiatives include a $40 million workforce recovery grant program aimed to get more jobseekers back to work, while helping sectors impacted most by COVID-19. The funding will expand workforce training, job training and support services as well as covering basic expenses that are barriers to those seeking employment.
Greetings RW Family,
We are all joined in mourning with the family of George Floyd for the unspeakable events that took place at the hands of the Minneapolis Police Department. The murder of yet another unarmed Black individual by the hands of the police demonstrates the immediate need to dismantle the targeted systems of oppression that disproportionately terrorize Black and Brown communities, especially from police violence. There has been too much trauma inflicted upon American citizens and not enough accountability and action from the government.
